In 2021 and a few months ago, I was appointed as a photographer for two commissions in collaboration with the creative group “60 Miles by Road or Rail”. These were two highly engaging community-based projects documenting the new town stories of Northampton and Corby through intergenerational activities, marking 50 years since their creation. In both instances, photography was part of a broader collaboration involving myself as the photographer, a videographer, and contributions from oral history and theatre. The first project also involved the Northampton Museum, which hosted a photographic exhibition. The results were outstanding, with my images featured by the BBC, The Guardian, and other media outlets.
The most recent project celebrated the 50th anniversary of Weston Favell Shopping Centre. For this, I spent several days capturing portraits of over 80 individuals I met around the area. These are the people who bring life and character to the centre, transforming it into a vibrant community hub rather than just a shopping destination.
The outcome of the work is a semi-permanent large exhibition, funded by Arts Council England and Northampton Town Council, displayed within the walls of the centre.
