Behind the scene at the Olivier Awards

Behind the scene at the Olivier Awards

I had the privilege to access the behind the scene at this year glamorous Olivier Awards. I was free to roam from the green carpet to the winner’s corridor and capture their first expressions as they left the stage.

Cheerleaders on the Saturday Magazine

On July 2021, Cheerleading became an official Olympic Sport. The new Olympic status means that an Olympic host nation is now able to select Cheerleading for inclusion at its games. The ICU comprises of 119 members National Federations and includes over 10 million athletes across all 7 continents. Between the 119 countries are some unexpected countries, many with a very active base. Cheerleading began in the US in the late 19th century. There were almost no women cheerleaders until men went to war in the 40s. In the latter half of the 20th century it was feminised and sexualised, before evolving into a competitive athletic endeavour of its own as a result of second wave feminism. In the last 12 months I spend some time travelling to some incredible countries exploring the wonderful world of Cheerleaders. Thanks to Kate Edward for the real support and Saturday Magazine for the incredible opportunity

When in Brighton …

When in Brighton …

When @guardian_sport asked me to spend the day with the As Roma supporters in Brighton my heart filled with joy. So many years spent in Curva Sud as a teenager which I will never forget. Football never stops to create emotions, although the tension of an away game sometimes is a bit too much…thanks Steven for the idea and always Forza Roma !! Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP) in East London is the location of the 2012 Olympics. Today is one of the most unique and successful visitor attractions in the English capital. The sporting complex and public park is redefining the historic industrial and creative heartlands of Stratford and Hackney Wick as an exciting and sustainable place to live, work, study, play and visit. An amazing project; a collaboration within Spy Studio design agency, which developed the branding and visual identity and Un.titled that designed, built and implemented the website. I was asked to put in images the multifaceted identity of the park, which is constantly transforming and shaping through the day. Below is a small selection of the photos. In collaboration with my friend and director Jim Williams, we also produced and realized the video which is on the landing page of the website

the shrinkage of the Caspian Sea

the shrinkage of the Caspian Sea

I visited the Caspian Sea in Kazakhstan to document the shrinkage of the Caspian Sea. According to a forthcoming report by Kazakhstan’s Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology, the Caspian Sea is approaching the lowest level of 29 metres below sea level, recorded in 1977. In June, the local Aktau authority declared a state of emergency over the critically low level of the sea. My full reportage, words and photos, have been published on a lovely photos essay on the Guardian. Thanks to the local activities and scientists which showed me around @azamat_sarsenbayev @asselbaimukanova
