Faces of Favell - 50 years of a community hub
Client: 60 Miles by Road or Rail
In 2021 and again in 2024, I was appointed as a photographer for two commissions in collaboration with the creative group “60 Miles by Road or Rail.” These projects were engaging, community-based initiatives that documented the stories of Northampton and Corby as they celebrated 50 years since their creation through intergenerational activities. The other project can be found on the website and is simply titled '60 miles'.
In both instances, my role as a photographer was part of a broader collaboration that included a videographer and contributions from oral history and theatre. The first project also featured the Northampton Museum, which hosted a photographic exhibition showcasing our work. The results were outstanding, with my images being featured by the BBC, The Guardian, and other media outlets.
The most recent project celebrated the 50th anniversary of Weston Favell Shopping Centre. For this, I spent several days capturing portraits of over 80 individuals I met around the area. These individuals bring life and character to the shopping centre, transforming it into a vibrant community hub rather than just a retail destination.
The outcome of this work is a large-scale, semi-permanent exhibition, funded by Arts Council England and Northampton Town Council, which is displayed within the shopping centre itself.
